Aunt Gail's Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

blue ribbon sour cream sugar cookies

I guess my hoarder- like tendencies for collecting great tried & true recipes go a long way back.....

For my bridal shower {a buh-zillion years ago} in 1992,  I enclosed 3x5 cards in with the  invitations and asked family members & friends to share their favorite recipe for  (the bride to be) to start my first collection with.... I received so many great ones, including this sugar cookie recipe from my Aunt Gail.  I'm sure I've made this recipe 100 times....

Aunt Gail's Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

  • 1 Cup Butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1/2 Cup Sour Cream
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • 5 to 6 Cups flour
Blend butter and sugar until creamy. Mix in eggs, and remaining ingredients.  Sift in enough flour to make it easy to handle, usually 5 to 6 cups.
Roll out on floured surface, cut with choice of cookie cutter and bake at 350 degrees approx. 8 minutes.  Don't over bake and they will stay soft until gone.  Frost as you like.

  1. I love recipe cards that look well used (and loved). I treasure all my old recipe books and cards and will never transfer them to my computer :-)

  6. Love these cookies Lori Ann. I am looking for a recipe I can make into candy corn cookies but the one I used yesterday was too soft and they ended up looking like Easter eggs! Lol Does this recipe spread? Or do the cut outs hold their shape? I'm sharing these on FB today :) Thanks so much for linking up to Creative Thursday. Can’t wait to see what you share this week! Have a wonderful week.

    1. These sugar cookies will "puff" up when you bake them. They don't really spread. I sure hope this is helpful :)
